Client Info
I’m the client. This is a personal design outlet that started during the pandemic. This continues to be a place where I practice design. While having fun and making things that I enjoy.
Goal
The goal with Galactic Surplus has always been to have fun within a world that I deeply enjoy. I’m mostly making things I want and in the process learning about different tools and design techniques to bring my vision to life as a physical product. This means not only leaning into my design background but also other hobbies I’ve picked up over the years. Galactic Surplus is slowly becoming the all encompassing outlet of all my creative strengths.
How did this start?
At the start of the pandemic I was looking to make something at home that I could share with some friends. This started with the purchase of a button making machine and quickly grew into designing t-shirts. Learning about print on demand was a big motivator here as it meant I didn't need to keep stock of shirts that might not sell. After the monthly dues to Shopify and my yearly domain cost. This project mostly costs me design time. and Occasionally I buy new tools to help make things I hopefully can sell.
Why Star Wars?
For as long as I can remember I’ve been captured by all aspects of a galaxy far far away. The thought of Galactic surplus was to make items that felt at home in the real world with heavy influence by this galaxy. Some of the ideas play into the fact that these aren't ours but things we’ve found in our travels around the galaxy. Most if not all our shirts are written in Aurebesh. A popular writing system found in most of the core worlds. Sometimes we take real world ideas and reimagine them in space. Passing off items as bootlegs and galactic interpretations.
